Patsy’s husband served our country bravely in our armed forces. After his long life of service, Patsy lost her husband last year. Patsy applied to receive her survivors’ benefits from the VA and was approved, but seemingly out of the blue, the benefits she was owed were taken away.

Every day that I have served in the U.S. House representing the 32nd district of Texas, the government has been closed because of a shutdown that has now become the longest in U.S. history. I have watched in increasing dismay as the stalemate has widened and the effects have hurt government workers and their families in North Texas.

Allred is a breakout star among the Democratic freshmen who was elected copresident of the Democratic freshman class of 67. He defeated Pete Sessions, R-Dallas, the highest ranking GOP member of the House. Allred is being rewarded with three committee assignments:  Veterans’ Affairs, Foreign Affairs, and Transportation and Infrastructure.

This Sunday, Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32) held a roundtable with federal workers living in the 32nd Congressional District of who have been impacted by the government shutdown. Allred listened to their stories, many of whom are working without pay or have been furloughed, and shared with the group his work to reopen the government, voting for bipartisan bills in the House.

The House is set to vote on Jan. 9 on a standalone resolution to intervene in the lawsuit by freshman Rep. Colin Allred, D-Texas, Pelosi spokesman Henry Connolly said on Twitter. That resolution would be similar to Title III of the Democratic rules package detailing the authorization to intervene in the case.
