Allred Announces $107 million in Local Bridge Repair Funding for Texas in 2022 as Part of Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

January 14, 2022

Texas will receive $537 million total over 5 years

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32), a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced that as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, more than $107 million will come to Texas to help repair local bridges in fiscal year 2022. Additionally, the Federal Highway Administration estimates that over a five-year period Texas will receive $537 million to help replace and repair local bridges, and the program will administer more than $26 billion nationally over the same time frame.

“Texas has more than 818 bridges in poor condition, and these funds will repair and rebuild bridges in North Texas and across our state,” said Allred. “Again we are seeing the benefits of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for Texas. I will keep working to ensure these funds help our economy grow, reduce congestion and improve the safety of our bridges and roads.”

According to the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, about 30 bridges in the 32nd District alone were deemed structurally deficient. See that report and a list of structurally deficient bridges here

Allred previously announced more than $80 million in funding was headed to DFW Airport and Love Field Airport as part of the infrastructure law he helped pass.

The investment announced today is part of a program designed to help Texas repair local bridges that are critical for getting to school and work, moving commerce and connecting communities. The law also includes a separate program designed to support larger bridges through a competitive grant program. Details on that program will be announced at a later date.
