Allred On President Biden’s Visit to El Paso and the U.S.-Mexico Border

January 8, 2023

DALLAS – Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32) released the following statement ahead of President Joe Biden’s visit to El Paso, Texas.

“This visit by President Biden is welcome, as it is so important to hear directly from the folks impacted by issues at our border. I am hopeful that bipartisan conversations can begin about how to fix our broken immigration system.

“From El Paso to Brownsville, these communities are critical to the fabric of Texas and our nation. Too often border communities are used as a photo opportunity or a talking point by folks who want to divide us, but they are home to real people who need us to solve a real problem.

“Whether it is finding a solution for Dreamers, boosting processing capacity to reduce the backlog or providing our Border Patrol agents with the tools they need to secure our border – the path forward needs to be comprehensive bipartisan immigration reform, which will grow our economy and reflect our shared American values.

“Additionally, we must address the root causes of migration from Central and South America to the United States.

“This problem has eluded multiple Presidents and Congresses controlled by both Republicans and Democrats. It’s time for action. I will always put North Texas and our great state first, and will work with anyone on real, bipartisan solutions to address this critical issue.”
