Allred Statement on the Birth of His New Son and Taking Parental Leave

March 29, 2021

DALLAS – Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32) announced today that he will take a short paternity leave after he and his wife, Alexandra Eber, welcomed their new son, Cameron Eber Allred. Allred released the following statement regarding his paternity leave.

"Aly, Jordan and I are so excited for the arrival of Cameron. I will now be taking a short paternity leave to support my wife, our two-year-old, and our newborn in the first few weeks of his life.

"Family is so important and I will continue working so all parents have the opportunity to be with their new baby during this special time. Being there for your partner and newborn during this critical period leads to better outcomes for kids, dads and their partners, and men taking paternity leave promotes equality for working moms.

"This pandemic has only further underscored the need for all Americans to have access to paid family leave. I am committed to working to ensure that no matter who you are or where you live, hard-working Americans can all have financial security and peace of mind while starting a family or caring for a loved one.

"As always my office is here to be a resource for North Texans. If we can help you in any way, please give us a call at (972) 972-7949."

Allred wrote more about his decision to take this leave, the importance of doing so for kids and their parents, and how fathers taking parental leave promotes equality for working mothers, in the Dallas Morning News.

Allred took a similar leave in 2019 after the birth of his first son Jordan. For more information on the importance of paternity leave please see this report from the U.S. Department of Labor: Paternity Leave: Why Parental Leave For Fathers Is So Important For Working Families.
