Allred Statement in Response to Mass Shooting in San Jacinto County

DALLAS – Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32) released the following statement in response to the news 5 people, including an 8-year-old child, were killed in a shooting in Cleveland, Texas in San Jacinto County. 

“My heart breaks for the people in San Jacinto County, and I join my fellow Texans in praying for this community.

“Once again an individual using an AR-style assault weapon has destroyed a family and ripped apart a community – in this case because a neighbor wanted their children to be able to sleep in peace. Now five lives are gone, including an innocent eight-year-old child. 

“As a father, I refuse to accept there is nothing we can do to save lives and protect our kids. It’s why I support common-sense actions like universal background checks and red-flag laws to ensure dangerous individuals don’t have these deadly weapons. Folks in both parties must work together and get something done. Our kids' lives are at stake.”
